With the end of tax season quickly approaching, I wanted to share some tips and resources that can help make the filing process as simple as possible. 

E-File And Use Direct Deposit

Choosing to file your tax return electronically and receive a refund via direct deposit allows for faster processing by reducing potential delays and errors that could result from sending paper documents. To file electronically, you can use commercial tax prep software, a trusted tax professional, or Free File, a tool offered through the IRS.

The IRS also offers programs like Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) which support qualified individuals as they complete basic tax returns for free.

Ensure Your Tax Return Is Accurate

The IRS expects to process about 160 million tax returns this year. Reviewing your tax return before you file can help you avoid processing delays and obstacles in issuing refunds. Make sure to verify any information submitted by a tax professional on your behalf and carefully organize the documents needed to complete your filing.

Claim Every Credit You're Entitled To

Programs like the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit are available to qualified individuals or families and accessible by filing a tax return. These funds may also be available to those who traditionally do not file tax returns.

This is also the last chance to claim any remaining Advanced Child Tax Credit payments or your third Economic Impact Payment stimulus check if you did not receive it during 2021.

Use IRS.gov Resources For Help With Questions

IRS.gov is one of the easiest ways to get support for common questions. The website provides helpful information on filing your tax return and determining eligibility for credits and deductions. The IRS also provides resources through their social media accounts like the video below from their YouTube channel which explains the process of checking on the status of your refund.
