Dear [firstname]:

Many people have asked me what our government is doing to respond to the global spread of the coronavirus and what can be done to keep our families and communities safe. Click here to learn more about the coronavirus, including tips for how you can stay safe.

Americans deserve a coordinated, comprehensive, whole-of-government response to prepare for the possible spread of coronavirus within the United States. That's why I'm alarmed that President Trump hasn't taken this seriously at all. For nearly two years, he has left vacant critical positions in charge of managing pandemics at the National Security Council and the Department of Homeland Security. He's tweeted that we're in "great shape" despite dire warnings from experts within his own administration, and he's painting a rosy picture of this public health emergency to cover up the fact that he has no idea how to deal with it.

Adding insult to injury, the Trump administration just put forth an incompetent, half-baked funding request which is pathetically insufficient to protect Americans from this epidemic. This is only a few weeks after proposing millions of dollars worth of cuts to the Centers for Disease Control, which is on the front lines of this emergency.

So here's what I want your opinion on: are you satisfied with the Trump administration's response to the coronavirus outbreak so far?

I am working with House leadership to swiftly advance a strong, strategic funding package that fully addresses the scale and seriousness of this public health crisis. In the meantime, I want you to know that my office will continue to stay in close contact with local, state, and federal stakeholders to asses our preparedness and ensure that Massachusetts is ready should an outbreak occur.

Member of Congress
