U.S. Congressman Jim Mcgovern (Ma02) Statement on President Obama's State of the Union Address

Washington, DC, January 21, 2015

Tonight the President laid out a bold – but achievable – agenda to increase prosperity for all Americans.  We continue to see strong economic growth as we recover from the worst recession since the 1930’s. But too many middle class families – and those trying to get into the middle class – have not fully benefited from that growth.  That has to change.  We especially need to extend ladders of opportunity to those struggling in poverty.  

The question before us now is whether or not the new Republican Congress will agree to work with Democrats in a meaningful, thoughtful and bipartisan way, or if they will continue to be the “Party of No.” 

I hope for the sake of the country they make the right choice.
