Rep. McGovern Statement on Michael Cohen Guilty Plea

Today, U.S. Congressman James P. McGovern (D-MA), Ranking Member of the House Rules Committee, released the following statement:

“If there was no collusion and no criminal activity, then why are so many people willing to risk so much to facilitate a cover-up? The president wants to paint the special counsel’s investigation as a witch hunt, but the facts speak for themselves. His campaign manager, foreign policy advisor, national security advisor, personal attorney Michael Cohen, and others have now all pled guilty. But it’s not just that Michael Cohen lied to Congress – he lied to the American people. And I think they deserve the truth. 

“Each passing day reveals a new reason why Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation must be protected from interference by the president and his accomplices. The new Democratic majority in the House of Representatives will use all of our powers to conduct proper investigation and oversight, and we will ensure that no one in this country is above the law.”
