Congressman Jim McGovern issued the following statement upon the confirmation of Senator John Kerry as the next Secretary of State.

"John Kerry has been an incredibly effective and dedicated senator for our Commonwealth, and I am sad to see him go. But I know the country -- indeed the world -- will be a better place for his service as Secretary of State. I have great confidence in his ability to lead our diplomatic efforts and to help create a more peaceful, just and tolerant world."
